With an opening set of high energy Fusion and Funk by Kent's premier youth jazz orchestra (KYJO), this is a package sure to appeal to all jazz and big band fans. NYJO features the very best young UK jazz musicians playing great music, from "straight ahead" big band charts to contemporary music written specially for them by top British jazz composers like Tim Garland, Nikki Iles and Julian Joseph. NYJO's extensive library incorporates music reflecting the great heritage of big band music: Ellington's Rocking In Rhythm, Basie's All Of Me and Thad Jones's The Groove Merchant reflect the instrumental tradition, while the classic arrangements by Nelson Riddle and Billy May for artists like Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra give our young and exciting vocalist their moment in the spotlight. NYJO continues to promote writing talent from within the band, and many of our originals and arrangements are written by distinguished alumni like Andy Panayi and Mark Nightingale or breakthrough talent like Tom Stone and Callum Au.
